Faith Justified

Welcome to the latest addition to the Gathered by the Fire blog.  It seems that our news media prefers to focus on explosions, death and dishonesty.  With the advent of 24 hour news, we could all be forgiven for believing that these stories of suffering and exploitation are the norm, that the world is not a safe place and people are not to be trusted.

I reject that completely.  I believe that the world is a beautiful place and the overwhelming majority of people are wonderful most of the time.  Sometimes, I hear a story that helps to justify my faith.  I will share some of them with you here.  Stop by if you need to be reminded that the world is filled with good people who do good things all day, every day.

Warning:  A box of tissue is required to proceed beyond this point.

When times are darkest, true friends shine a light…

I couldn’t make the YouTube video work from the page, so here is a link to a beautiful story about a homeless poet, the woman who befriended him and the amazing result.  You’re gonna love this one.

I am not sure how this amazing story stayed under the radar for 2 years.  I am sure I would have remembered it if I had heard about it.

I don’t know what they’re saying, but I bet its pretty awesome and loving and beautiful.

I was invited to participate in this “Pay It Forward” experience by a good friend and colleague.  It’s a wonderful idea and I jumped on it right away.  Feel free to copy and paste the message on your Facebook page or pass it along in whatever way suits you and your friends.

To start this year off in a loving way, I am participating in this Pay-it-Forward initiative:

The first five people to comment on this status with “I’m in” will receive a surprise from me at some point during this calendar year – anything from a book, something homemade or homegrown, a postcard or absolutely any kind of surprise! There will be no warning and it will happen when the mood strikes and I find something that I believe suits you and makes you happy.

These five people must make the same offer in their Facebook status and distribute their own joy. Simply copy & paste (or retype) this text into your profile (don’t share) so we can form a web of connection and kindness. Let’s do more nice and loving things for each other in 2014, without any reason other than to make life more enjoyable. Here’s to a year filled with love and small joys.

If I do not have your mailing address, I will message you privately to get that information. Good luck to the first five people!!
